Cairo International Bank is to open its doors to customers in different parts of the country, as part of measures to bring banking services and products closer to its clientele. Consistent with its growth strategy, Cairo Bank managing Director Prince Kassim Nakibinge says their five year plan focuses on increasing their branch network to over 30 across the country. Cairo has previously been known to be an urban based bank with more than five branches in Kampala.
The bank of Uganda has reassured the public on the stability and safety of the banking industry. According to the Governor, Prof, Tumusiime Mutebile, the regulator is closely monitoring the financial sector in order to safe guard the interests of the investors and their customers. Prof. Mutebile made the remarks at the rebranding ceremony and the opening of Cairo bank’s Mbarara branch.
Hospitality, openness, welcoming and growth, these are some of the achievements that were amongst the values on which Cairo Amman Bank was established in 1960. It had aspirations of some day becoming at the forefront of the banking industry, and indeed, a little over 50 years later, the bank prides itself on being a pioneer in the banking sector with thousands of clients that come from different parts of the world, raising the Jordanian economy and elevating its status as a country that offers exceptional banking services.

The deputy governor of the Central Bank Louis Kasekende has admitted before the Public Accounts Committee that the central bank failed in their supervisory and regulatory role of banking institution in the country to detect fraud at the Cairo Bank which subsequently resulted into loss of 300 billion shillings pension funds. The funds were paid to ghost pensioners formerly working with the East African Community. Speaking before the probe committee of Parliament, the Deputy governor Louis Kasekende and the director Banking at the Central Bank, Ben Sekabira revealed that when the scam started between 2009 and 2012 some attempts to detect fraud were made by Bank of Uganda and some recommendations to have the board of directors of Cairo Bank at the time overhauled were made.
